Kayole stripping

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 24 – Two men, including an Administration Police officer were on Monday morning arraigned before court and charged for allegedly stripping a woman in Nairobi’s Kayole estate.
The officer, Christopher Gatera, and his co accused Samuel Maina were paraded before Chief magistrate Emily Ominde at the Makadara Law Courts where they denied the charges.
It is alleged that they committed the offense in Kayole. The court ordered the suspects to deposit a cash bail of Sh50,000 each to secure their release pending the hearing on February 19 next year.
They were among 100 suspects arrested following the incident that occurred on Monday last week, drawing condemnation from Kenyans.
The other suspects were interrogated and released after police failed to link them with the incident, which came a few days after a similar one that occurred on Tom Mboya Street.
The suspects had been rounded up from the matatu terminus during a swoop conducted in the area.
The woman was later admitted to the Mama Lucy Hospital following the incident that occurred at Mihang’o area hours after a group of women held demonstrations in Nairobi and Mombasa to condemn previous incidents.
The recent incidents have drawn anger from women leaders in the country, including Cecil Mbarire who chairs the Kenya Women Parliamentarian Association.  Courtesy : capital.fm
